kik-dun-kik-dun-kik-dun-kik-dun

THe bass is the most enjoyable part of this.

I would have cut the kicks out the bar that the piano came in, and then restarted them after that first bar. its a little disorienting w/ the kick there . . . but other than that, this is an enjoyable piece. again, love the bass. 8/3 and a download

unrealdark responds:

I think I'll cut the kicks out at that part yeah. That's a fat crunchy bass eh!? :D I made it myself. :) Thanks for reviewing it's apreciated!

REVERB PLEEEEEASE

add some reverb to that opening synth and this song WILL be a lot more fun. srlsy. composition wise, its not too shabby. it is enjoyable at the :44 mark. percussion work is fun. I think a pad or two might make help give this song a deeper level of that flying feel you are going for. The opening went a little long, and the ending needs a little something . . . dunno what thos . . . : \

please don't take this as "this whole thing sucks" b/c I honestly believe you have potential with this song, it just needs some working ^__' keep it up bro, and keep me posted on other songs and I'll do my best to review them

Thanks for your comment cRAVE ^^

You were very close on guessing the songs, and we really appreciate your compliments on Aquatic Ambience and Forest Interlude!

I'll send you a PM when we finished every track!

very fun

A different feel and flavor from your other stuff. Songs like this always remind me of the desert level in Mario Land for the brick GB. I personally would call this DnB just b/c of the heavy percussion work.

You get highest marks in all spots b/c this is different from your usual flavor, which always demands growth!

Darren-M responds:

thanks man, i thought it was quite different too. i dont know what got into me when i made this

very enjoyable

I really enjoyed the opening in this. Something I've noticed about the past couple submissions of yours (or maybe this is just me) is that your songs have a bit of an arabian flavor in parts (in this one, the opening). I like that, don't hear a lot of it, so it's stands out from everyone else out there!

The effects and transitions were delightfully sick. good use of build accented the energy in parts, so kudos to that. You keep this nice and varieted. what did you use for the little noise at 1:18? I wanna say it sounds like a ... i dunno what, some kind of animal. kinda creepy sounding - but fits very well and is very cool.

the last half I like a lot, but I would have liked to have seen the outro make use of abrupt stops and starts . . . I am sure that is the most ineffective way to express what is in my head ^___^ but I only say that I'd like to see the stops and starts is b/c I feel like it would fit the overall feel of the song that you have building the whole time, instead of just a pitch-shift. but bro, its still a 10 and a 5 and fun to listen to!

Darren-M responds:

the thing at 1:18 was a sample i speed up by playing it in a sampler at a high pitch. and i think it had a phaser on it too. the sample if you slow the song down should be a woman singing or something. slow it down and see

and i think i know what you mean about stops and starts. also your interviews are quite more knowledgeable lately. thanks for the good review man :) it helped

Your best song yet

sheerly exhilerating. Wonderfully captivating, enjoyable, and amazing. One of the greatest songs to treat my ears here on NGs . . . I mean it.

How is this ambient?

great. can't wait to see the finished. please PM me when it's done!

Yodamanjaro responds:

It will never be "finished." lol sorry. Thanks for the review though!

The songs made for fun are underappreciated

I can tell this is one that you had fun w/. Conveyed the melancoly of the rainy weather quite well. Wasn't crazy about the opening lead synth . . . but this is a genre I don'toften listen to, so I won't dock over personal preferences.

THe Lyrics are well recorded. I really like the :38 point. an unexpected but very nice touch. I would have liked to see just a LITTLE reverb on the vocals. I like the :40-end section best I think. It has a light, happy, hopeful feel about it that kinda lifts the spirits. So you get points on that ^___^.

Good job on this one. nice little song.

Darren-M responds:

this was a good assessment, and yes some reverb would be good.

thanks for the review

This song got better?

OK. FIrst I must apologize. I wrote a nice long review for this a week or two ago, but internet crapped just as I was about to finalize it and I was so discouraged from loosing what I'd typed up that I let it be for a while. So please recieve my apology. I haven't forgotten this song.
It's really an improvement on the first submission you had here - and that one was already really enjoyable. I am very pleased w/ the creativity you used in the song, playing w/ the original to create an extended and remenicent-of-the-original intro.
So, this whole time I thought the DKC tune you had in here was the cave theme - but something jogged this time around and I am reliving times of riding fuel powered floating pads, dodging little necky-nuts, klubbas, and those darn-irritating armadillos! So good job on evoking mental imagery in the listener though the piece. A strong testament to a composer's skill.
Bro. You took this song to a higher level. the overall impression of the song is much more professional. Keep it up!

SockpuppetRemix responds:

lol That's alright cRAVE. I know all about crappy disobedient Internet problems. =)
Thanks a lot for your review cRAVE! I hope the OC judges like it as much as you do. We shall find out in about... 2 years, judging by the huge queue... =/
And I hate those armadillo guys as well >=(.

you have some interesting techniques here

There is a lot of chaos in spots (1:30-ish), and I say that in the positive sense like one would about Insomnia (see:DDR). But the chaos is by no means the highlight of this piece. There is a lot of variation throughout the piece to keep it interesting the whole length of the song. Vocals and pitch-changes are used innovatively (the techniquie for the vocal-pitch change I have yet to unlock . . . so you have me scratching my head on that one, but I still likes).

I wasn't crazy about the opening bass synth when I first heard it, wanting to hear something a little more "lush". But by the second listen, it fit nicely.

I can tell this took a long time, which equals a lot of thought and most of all-effort. Just a random question, How many automations for this song?

10 and 5

Darren-M responds:

lol ok um well message me aboout the vocals/pitch change think and ill tell you about it.

the opening bass line is as you know my favorite signal the saw tooth. yeah it is a little ugly lol, but thats what i do with trance i guess.

as far as automations go. i would say i had somewhere in the neighborhood of 30

to conserve ram i used the same syhtn several times but i automated switches on them to make them turn into different things while they were inactive in the song so while those knobs and values were being changed i had a different synth come in , then when that one was done the same synth as befoe came in but with difft parameters.

at 1:04 there is an interesting automation i am fond of recently which is automation of an equalizer. i panned the the amplitude up high and moved it from left to right on the spectrum and kept the Q a little wide so it could be heard but thin is ok too. it makes for a nice sweeping effect.

I have a message. A message I intended to deliver in a medium few have broadcasted it in before. Its nothing new, but the world must know. You must know.
